The Basic Law of the State in the Sultanate of Oman promulgated by Royal Decree No. 6/2021 set a stable mechanism for the transfer of the mandate of government in the Sultanate and a mechanism for the appointment of the Crown Prince, a statement of his duties and competencies, and an emphasis on the principle of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary as the basis for governance in the state.

The mandate of governance is transferred to the uncles and their children in the order specified in the second clause of Article 5.

If the mandate of the government is transferred to someone under the age of twenty-one, the authority of the Sultan shall be exercised by the Guardianship Council, which the Sultan has appointed by a high will. If he had not appointed a Council of Guardianship before his death, the Royal Family Council appointed a trusteeship council formed from one of the Sultan’s brothers and two of his cousins .

A royal decree shall be issued to the work system of the Guardianship Council, and a royal decree is also issued to appoint a person who has the mandate to govern according to the text of Article 5 of this system, the Crown Prince, and the Royal Order specifies his competencies and the tasks assigned to him, as the Crown Prince performs before the Sultan before exercising his powers or tasks assigned to him The oath stipulated in Article 10 of this Law, and if a temporary impediment prevents the Sultan from exercising his powers, he shall be replaced by the Crown Prince.
