Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berlin wants to withhold the vaccination doses supplied for the first time by the manufacturer Moderna because of suspected quality defects.

There are doubts as to whether the vaccine was properly transported and refrigerated before it was taken over by the State of Berlin, the Senate Department for Health announced on Wednesday.

The carrier and the manufacturer were asked to provide clarification.

On Tuesday, 2,400 vaccine doses from the manufacturer Moderna arrived in Berlin.

As planned, the second Berlin corona vaccination center in the Erika-Heß-Stadion is to be opened on Thursday.

It will now first be supplied with the Biontech vaccine, it said.
