Greifswald / Grevesmühlen / Grabow (dpa / mv) - Snow and sudden slipperiness have hindered traffic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

As police spokesmen in Rostock and Neubrandenburg said on Wednesday, there have been at least twelve accidents since Tuesday evening.

A driver was killed and at least four people were injured.

The north and west of the country were particularly affected.

Most recently, in the morning near Zierzow (Ludwigslust-Parchim), a bus slipped off a country road into the ditch.

Nobody was injured, said the police spokesman.

The road from Grabow to Marnitz is blocked.

The federal highway 105 near Grevesmühlen, where a truck had crashed the evening before, is also still closed.

The tractor is in the ditch on the roof, the recovery will probably take until Wednesday noon.

The most serious accident had already occurred on Tuesday evening between Greifswald and Kandelin.

There a novice driver was probably driving too fast on slippery state road 26.

His car slid against several crash barriers and a street tree.

The 18-year-old driver from Greifswald died.

His 30-year-old passenger was taken to a clinic with serious injuries.

The access road to the A20 was closed for around two hours.

The truck driver whose vehicle had slipped into the ditch near Grevesmühlen was also seriously injured.

Short-term snowfall and temperatures around freezing point had made several roads in the west of the country dangerously slippery since Tuesday evening, said a police spokesman.

In the meantime, however, the winter service has dulled a lot again, and Autobahn 19 is also free again, it said.

Several accidents had occurred on Autobahn 19 behind Wittstock in Brandenburg, which temporarily hampered traffic to the north.

At Kavelstorf shortly before Rostock, a 27-year-old driver on the A19 came off the lane.

The man was taken to a clinic with injuries.

The car was badly damaged.

In Neustadt-Glewe, a 58-year-old driver slipped her car into an embankment and was seriously injured.

Overall, the property damage caused by the accidents was estimated at at least 150,000 euros.

According to the German Weather Service, there should be snowfall again in the northeast on Thursday night.
