Nearly 4,500 people died from the coronavirus in 24 hours on Tuesday in the United States, marking a new record for the most affected country in the world.

Faced with an epidemic outbreak, the United States recorded more than 235,000 new contaminations and 4,470 deaths on Tuesday, unprecedented for the country which had never yet exceeded the 4,000 death mark in 24 hours.

A compulsory test to enter the United States

And in the hope of curbing contagions, the federal authorities have decided that all travelers wishing to travel to the United States by plane will now have to present, from January 26, a negative test for Covid-19 in order to be authorized to travel, US health authorities said on Tuesday.

This test must be carried out within three days of departure for the United States.

Airlines will be responsible for verifying that a test has been carried out before boarding.

The seven-day average of deaths is at a higher since the start of the pandemic, and they are to be deplored in all parts of the country, with a particularly large increase in the South and West.

A critical situation in New York

In total, the United States has recorded 22.8 million cases and more than 380,000 deaths from the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

The situation is in places critical.

New York City could run out of vaccine stocks by the end of next week, its mayor Bill de Blasio has warned.

Further south, the situation is also dramatic in Panama where the authorities are considering renting refrigerated containers to keep the executives due to the saturation of hospital morgues.

The vaccine race is also well underway on the other side of the Atlantic.

The European Union is scrambling to obtain additional doses of the vaccine, efforts which should not, however, guarantee herd immunity in 2021 according to the WHO.
