The man had probably driven too fast on a country road near the town of Süderholz (Vorpommern-Rügen district), the police said.
The car came off the lane, crashed into several crash barriers and into a tree.
While the 30-year-old passenger survived seriously injured, the driver died at the scene of the accident.
