Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Interior Minister Thomas Strobl has spoken out in favor of stricter mask requirements in the south-west as well.

«FFP2 masks are a strong protection against infection.

We have room for improvement, ”said the CDU politician to the German press agency in Stuttgart.

He was reacting to the decision in Bavaria, according to which the wearing of FFP2 masks in local public transport and in retail is mandatory from Monday.

Strobl, however, sets slightly different priorities: "Initially, only FFP2 masks should be worn in nursing homes and medical facilities," said the Interior Minister.

The duty should also include visitors and patients.

A conventional cloth mouth and nose cover is no longer sufficient.

In addition, there are places with an increased infection rate, where the FFP2 mask would also have to be worn.

“For example, in airplanes, I would have to use an FFP2 mask.

The minimum distance is not maintained there. "

A better protective mask is also a good idea in local public transport: "When I think about how tightly people have to huddle together in some S-Bahn trains, an FFP2 mask would also be helpful here."

When asked whether there were enough FFP2 masks available in stores to care for many more people than before, the minister said: "This is now guaranteed."
