Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) has shown that the elderly in the country are very willing to vaccinate, but at the same time asked for patience.
"If more and more vaccines are added, the number of appointments approved by the vaccination centers will increase," said Glawe on Wednesday on the sidelines of a visit to a call center in Schwerin, which had been assigned the appointment by telephone.
At the start on Monday, many callers did not get through because the rush was so great.
According to Glawe, there were around 2500 inquiries about the corona vaccinations in the first ten days of January.
With the appointment of the vaccination centers, the number on Monday jumped to 10,500 in just two days.
Glawe praised the work of the currently around 30 call center employees.
«They are trying to do the best possible justice to the onslaught.
This is a mammoth task, especially in the first few days. "
As the amount of vaccine increases and the capacity utilization of the vaccination centers increases, so too will the number of call center employees.
The sometimes long waiting times came at the beginning of the week because callers had turned to the hotline with general questions about vaccinations or people wanted to make appointments who did not yet belong to the prioritized group of people over 80.
The prerequisite for a vaccination appointment is the receipt of a letter from the State Health Office.

The previous week, the office had written to the first 5,000 people aged 80 and over in alphabetical order and asked them to make vaccination appointments.
According to Glawe 1750, appointments had been made by Wednesday noon and lasted until the end of February.
The call center distributes the appointments for all twelve vaccination centers in the country, which are mostly only running at partial load because of the still low vaccine quantities.
