Fulda (dpa / lhe) - After Bad Vilbel in the previous year, Fulda has to cancel the 60th Hessentag due to corona.

After a meeting of the Hessentag Advisory Board, the State Chancellery announced on Wednesday evening in Wiesbaden that the state festival would not take place from May 21 to 30 as planned.

"We perceive people's great longing for the Hessentag in Fulda," declared Fulda 's Mayor Heiko Wingenfeld and the head of the State Chancellery, Axel Wintermeyer (both CDU).

“But we are also aware of our responsibility for the safety and health of visitors and employees.

You have top priority. "

The hopes for a feasible Hessentag would not have been fulfilled due to the difficult to calculate pandemic situation.

"What remains is an even more attractive city thanks to the successfully implemented urban development projects and the great chance of a high-quality Hessentag 2026 in Fulda," said Wingenfeld and Wintermeyer.

The Hessentag planning in Fulda has been running since the application in 2017. With a view to the corona pandemic, the city had already presented a special, streamlined concept last year with less dancing and big concerts in order to be able to react flexibly to further developments.

Under the motto “FD - Foll Hessisch”, visitors should find the offers in the three quarters: knowledge and education, nature and family, as well as culture and enjoyment.

Extensive hygiene measures were also planned, including distance regulations as well as the control and regulation of access and the avoidance of queues.

Last year it had already hit Bad Vilbel in the Taunus.

The preparations of the city in the Wetterau district were well advanced when it had to announce the cancellation of the festival in March 2020 after the start of the first lockdown.

Now Bad Vilbel is to come into play in 2025.

The last Hessentag so far took place in Bad Hersfeld in 2019.

The bottom line was that the ten-day state festival cost almost ten million euros and left the northeast Hessian city with a deficit of around 2.3 million euros.

The next host city for the Hessentag should be the central Hessian city of Haiger in 2022.
