Rostock (dpa / mv) - Despite the corona pandemic, the Rostock freight and fishing port increased cargo handling by six percent last year.

With a handling volume of 935,000 tons, the increase was 50,000 tons compared to the previous year, the company announced on Wednesday.

The port was able to benefit from its balanced mix, said managing director Steffen Knispel.

For example, the handling of fertilizers increased by 23 percent to a total of 363,400 tonnes, thus for the first time trumped the traditionally highest-volume timber handling.

This has decreased by 12 percent to 343,300 tons.

There was also a decrease of 19 percent to 57,860 tons for other bulk goods.

However, this was compensated for by a strong increase of 26 percent in general cargo to 66,640 tons.
