Celle (dpa / lni) - Since November, the number of corona deaths who are cremated in the crematorium Die Feuerbattungen Celle has increased significantly.

In December there were 23 deceased, in the full year 60, in January so far 12, said operations manager Thies Heinrich on Wednesday.

In the Hildesheim crematorium there were 250 corona victims last year, 20 of them in December.

It is conceivable that the numbers will continue to rise.

"We have a certain concern without panicking."

If necessary, employees could switch to the multi-shift system, work on weekends or use the capacities of other crematoria.

The coffins weren't stacked up in Celle, said Heinrich.

"We try not to let a traffic jam arise in the first place."

The communal crematorium in Meissen, Saxony, which was badly affected by the Corona crisis, reached its capacity limit last week. Svend-Jörk Sobolewski from the Arbeitsgemeinschaft deutscher Krematorien criticized the way the deceased were dealt with in Meissen. He emphasized: "Saxony does not reflect the condition of German crematoria." Many have free capacities.
