Kiel (dpa / lno) - According to the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Nursing, a corona vaccination is not necessary.

"In our opinion, the willingness to vaccinate is very high in Schleswig-Holstein," said Chamber President Patricia Drube of the German Press Agency.

"Many large facilities report a readiness of 90 percent of the medical and nursing staff."

But there also seem to be individual institutions that have a low quota, said Drube.

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had initiated a debate about compulsory vaccination for nursing staff in homes - and received broad criticism.

The SPD, the union's coalition partner in the federal government, contradicted him, as did the opposition, patient advocates and unions.

«Vaccination must be voluntary;

There must be no compulsory vaccination for certain professional groups, »said Verdi boss Frank Werneke.

"We are at the very beginning of a long vaccination campaign and are initially pleased about the high level of readiness in Schleswig-Holstein," said Drube.

If some nurses are not yet ready, then that should not be interpreted as a general rejection.

"We perceive doubts from some of our members and hear questions that we consider to be justified."

Information and discussions are now important.

For this purpose, the chamber offers, for example, information on the homepage and a video consultation with medical specialists.

According to Drube, the vaccinations in the clinics are going "well, since the in-house doctors can vaccinate".

In the inpatient long-term facilities (care for the elderly), employees now also have the option of being vaccinated by the mobile vaccination team.

The chamber sees the situation in outpatient care (including assisted outpatient living) as critical: "Here, neither residents nor nurses have the opportunity to be vaccinated in the facilities."

For people in need of care who use outpatient care, it is not possible to go to a vaccination center without support.

Even making an appointment is difficult.

Drube asked for a clear statement as to when the mobile vaccination teams will also operate these facilities.

Then the employees could decide whether to make an appointment in advance at a vaccination center or wait for a vaccination team.
