Leverkusen (AP) - Former national soccer player Lars Bender sees his style of play and that of his brother Sven as critical before their career ends in the summer.

"We have completely overexploited our bodies," said the 31-year-old in an interview with "Sport Bild" (Wednesday).

«We never doubted it before.

But today we doubt whether it was always the best way to overlook many ailments and to be available again and again despite problems, »said the defender.

"No, it was absolutely not always right and not healthy."

The twins announced in December that they would end their careers as football professionals after this season. Lars Bender has played in Leverkusen since 2009 and has been the team's captain for five years since 2015. Sven Bender came from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Lars Bender has 19 internationals, Sven Bender played seven times for Germany. Both were plagued repeatedly by injuries, some of them serious, during their careers.
