The US House of Representatives votes today on a decision to charge President Donald Trump for inciting a rebellion against the government in preparation for Trump's parliamentary trial, after the House members approved hours ago a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to activate the 25th Amendment to the Constitution in order to impeach Trump, and Pence anticipated the vote by rejecting Activating the constitutional amendment.

The House of Representatives - which is controlled by Democrats - will hold a session later today to consider a draft resolution presented by 3 Democratic lawmakers accusing Trump of inciting the rebellion, which allows the start of procedures for his trial in Congress only 8 days before the end of Trump's term.

The House Rules Committee approved the rules for debate and voting for Trump's parliamentary trial, which will be the second since he took office in January 2016.

Trump addressed a speech last Wednesday to a crowd of his supporters gathered in Washington to refuse to ratify the results of the presidential elections held last November and won by Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

On the same day, Trump supporters stormed the Congress building, killing 5 and wounding others, and delaying the approval of both houses of Congress on the results of the presidential elections for hours, an event that left a great shock in the United States and the world.

If the House of Representatives approves of Trump's impeachment today, he will be tried before the Senate, and two-thirds of the members of the House must agree to convict him, which requires the approval of the Democratic members and at least 17 Republicans of the 100 members of the House in favor of conviction.

Democrats could also use the trial to vote to prevent Trump from running for the presidency again, and Trump had previously stated that he intended to run in the 2024 election.

Project Reprimand

On the other hand, 6 Republicans submitted a draft resolution to reprimand Trump for his attempt to unlawfully cancel the presidential elections, and for violating the oath of his assumption of office.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives approved by a majority of 223, against 205 decisions calling on Vice President Mike Pence to start activating the 25th amendment to the constitution to remove President Donald Trump from office.

The amendment grants the vice president and most members of the government the power to remove the president from office, by declaring him ineligible to perform his duties.

The vote saw one Republican member join the Democrats to vote in support of the resolution.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched a scathing attack on President Trump during the House session, saying that he had incited his supporters to storm Congress and then said that he was not responsible for what his supporters did, whom she described as insurgents and terrorists.

Pelosi added during the House session that Trump should be impeached immediately, because his actions have proven that he is unable to perform his duties.

Prosecution team

Pelosi has appointed the prosecution team at Trump's congressional trial led by Representative Jimmy Raskin, in the clearest sign that she is moving forward quickly with those procedures, and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler said that Pelosi had chosen excellent people to run the president's trial, and Nadler added in a tweet, And his staff are looking forward to working with them.

The New York Times:

Republican leaders in the House of Representatives decided not to urge their fellow Republicans to oppose impeaching Trump in tomorrow's trial, leaving the matter subject to their personal decisions ..

On the other hand, information indicates that there are about 10 Republican members in the Senate who support the removal of Trump.

Reuters reported that there were more signs of Trump's decline in control of his party, as at least 4 Republicans said they would vote in favor of impeaching him for the second time in his term, in an event that a US president has not previously experienced.

Representative Liz Cheney, who holds the third-highest Republican office in the House of Representatives, said that Trump "gathered this crowd ... and ignited this attack" on the Congress building on the sixth of this month.

"I will vote to impeach the president," said Liz Cheney - who is the daughter of former Republican Dick Cheney, former Republican Vice President George W. Bush.

Three other Republican lawmakers, John Katko, Adam Kinzinger and Fred Upton, also said they would vote in favor of impeachment, and House Republican leaders did not urge their MPs to vote against impeachment of Trump.

Mitch McConnell

The New York Times said that Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had informed his aides that Trump had committed pretrial wrongdoing in order to impeach him.

The newspaper added that McConnell believes the trial procedures will facilitate the removal of Trump from the Republican Party, and said that McConnell has expressed to his aides his satisfaction with the Democrats moving forward with the trial proceedings.

The newspaper also quoted sources as saying that Republican Minority Leader in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy asked his colleagues whether he should ask Trump to resign after the events in Congress.

In a related context, the Chairman of the House Armed Forces Committee, Adam Smith, called on the US Vice President to act according to the House resolution, and to start immediately measures to impeach Trump, and Smith added that Trump is still proving to date that he is a threat to the country, and he must be removed immediately.

Penny refused

Mike Pence pre-empted the voting session in the House of Representatives with a letter he sent to Speaker Pelosi earlier in which he said that he would not activate the constitutional amendment on the removal of the president.

In his letter to Pelosi, Pence also said that he does not believe that activating the 25th amendment to dismiss Trump is in the interest of the country or in line with the US Constitution, and Vice Trump added that activating the constitutional amendment is not a means of punishment, but rather will lead to setting a terrible precedent, as he described.

In his letter, he indicated that he had not yielded to pressures last week to exercise powers outside his constitutional powers, and therefore he would not submit now to legislators to play political games, as he put it.

The US Vice President urged the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other lawmakers to avoid steps that would contribute to further division.

Trump's statement

On the other hand, President Trump said that the 25th amendment does not pose any danger to him, and that “what is going on to try him in Congress will be a disgrace to Joe Biden and his administration.” And he added, during a speech in Texas, that he is not concerned about what he called the plot of the trial. Great divisions could pose a great danger to the United States at these critical times.
