British Francesca Jones, who suffers from a rare hereditary condition, reached the major roles of a major tournament for the first time after defeating Chinese Lu Jiajing in the final round of the Australian Open qualifiers.

Jones was born with three toes and one thumb in each hand, and 3 toes on her right foot and 4 on her left.

Doctors told the 20-year-old player when she was a child that she would not be able to play tennis professionally due to her physical problems, which was the incentive that prompted her to prove this wrong.

The world number 241 overcame the odds and added a new chapter to her story on Wednesday when she beat China's Luo 6 - 0 6-1 to book her ticket to the finals of the tournament to be hosted in Melbourne.

Jones and all participants in the Australian Open will be quarantined for 14 days before the start of the tournament, which will be held between February 8 and 21.
