Gemünden (dpa / lby) - A 68-year-old woman probably died of carbon monoxide poisoning in her house in Gemünden (Main-Spessart district).

Her husband was taken to a clinic, the police said on Tuesday evening.

The couple's son found his parents motionless on Tuesday afternoon in the bedroom of their apartment on the ground floor and dialed the emergency number.

When the police and emergency services entered the premises, the carbon monoxide detector sounded the alarm, it said.

The couple were brought out of the building through the windows.

The 72-year-old man was reportedly approachable, his wife unconscious.

Despite all the efforts of the emergency doctor and the rescue service, she died on site.

On Wednesday, specialists from the LKA should investigate together with the Würzburg police force in the two-family house. The couple's son lives upstairs.
