Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The rush to the online portal and the telephone hotline for registering for a corona vaccination for seniors in Hesse has led to massive technical problems.
The Ministry of the Interior announced in Wiesbaden on Tuesday that there were several million access attempts within a very short time.
As a result, the capacity limit had been reached.
According to the ministry, the system had to be shut down in the meantime to prevent the online registration process from being permanently blocked.
This also had an impact on the booking options in the call centers.
Since the afternoon it has been possible to book appointments again via the telephone numbers 116 117 and +49 611 505 92 888.
The commissioned IT service provider is working flat out to get the website for the online registration process (impfterminservice.de) up and running again, the ministry announced.
Because of the great interest, there could be further disruptions.

The registration for a vaccination in the vaccination centers started on Tuesday in Hessen for citizens over 80 years.
The vaccination should then take place from Tuesday next week in the regional vaccination centers in Kassel, Gießen, Fulda, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt.
In Hesse there are already vaccinations for residents and employees in old people's and nursing homes as well as staff in corona intensive care units.
According to the Interior Ministry, more than 400,000 people aged 80 and over are already eligible for an appointment.
Because of the still very small amount of vaccine, only around 60,000 appointments could initially be made.
So far, 4000 appointments have been recorded.
