Already the big winner of the 2020 cinema year, marked by the pandemic, the Netflix platform announced on Tuesday the list of its releases scheduled for 2021, with no less than 70 feature films and a shower of stars.

Communication is unusual for the video-on-demand giant, which typically only shows one movie at a time, and is a testament to Netflix's strike force.

The platform now exceeds, by far, in volume, all Hollywood studios.

The presentation comes in counterpoint to that of the studio Warner Bros., which announced, to everyone's surprise, that it would simultaneously release in theaters and on its HBO Max platform all its films scheduled for 2021, i.e. 17 titles.

From drama to comedy, sci-fi, horror or even the western, the online video service has taken care to sweep all the major genres of modern cinema, with some titles that seem cut out for rewards. major cinema.

The platform only communicated the release dates of ten films, all scheduled between early January and mid-March.

Along with the list of films, Netflix has uploaded a short star-focused video, featuring Gal Gadot ("Wonder Woman 1984"), Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ("Fast & Furious" or "Jumanji") and Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool") headlining.

This year, the platform was offered, jumble, and in addition to these three stars, Regina King, Adrien Brody, Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, Octavia Spencer, Jeremy Irons, but also Leonardo DiCaprio or Jennifer Lawrence, all Oscar winners.

As for the directors, are notably aligned Jane Campion, with "The Power of the Dog", also Oscar winner, as well as the American actress Halle Berry and the playwright and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda (the musical "Hamilton"), the latter two passing for the first time behind the camera.

Among the most anticipated feature films are Adam McKay's "Don't Look Up" ("The Big Short: The Heist of the Century" and "Vice"), with Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as "The Harder They Fall", western co-produced by rapper Jay-Z with an all-African-American cast.

Netflix also seems to rely a lot on "Red Notice", with Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, an action film whose budget would reach 160 million dollars, according to several American media.

Asked by AFP, Netflix did not specify if some of these films, and which, would benefit from a theatrical release.
