Kiel (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Health Heiner Garg (FDP) has criticized a move from Bavaria for a possible vaccination requirement for nurses.

"I have to explain to people that currently vaccine is only available for a minimal number of people authorized to vaccinate," Garg told the German press agency on Tuesday.

In light of this, to discuss compulsory vaccination at this point in time is "absurd".

"How am I supposed to fulfill such a duty if I don't have enough vaccine available, neither in Schleswig-Holstein, nor in Bavaria, nor anywhere else in the Federal Republic," said Garg.

He pointed out that the federal and state health ministers had clearly spoken out against compulsory vaccination.

"I find it extremely problematic to discuss compulsory vaccination for a special group of people a week later."

Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) defended his push for a possible vaccination requirement for nurses on Tuesday.

"I am promoting a consistent and open discussion," said Söder on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting in Munich.

“It's the same as always with things like this, first of all it is said: No, it doesn't work at all.

So either we want to defeat Corona now or we don't want to defeat it. "

Therefore at least the debate must be.

"The federal government has to decide whether it will happen then."

Söder again expressly refused a general corona vaccination.
