Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Parents who do not use emergency care in the daycare center in January do not have to pay any contributions.

The cabinet decided on Tuesday that the country would assume the parents' contributions in these cases, a spokesman for the finance ministry subsequently confirmed.

Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) had previously announced that she wanted to exempt families who do not use emergency care from the January fees.

That will cost the country an estimated 7 million euros.

On the other hand, those who send their child to emergency care also pay contributions as usual.

In Saxony-Anhalt, the rules have been tightened again since Monday in order to finally significantly reduce the spread of the corona virus.

Schools and daycare centers are therefore in emergency mode until at least the end of January.

Only parents who work in systemically relevant professions can have their children looked after through the sixth grade.

All other families have to find alternatives.

A similar situation already existed at the beginning of the corona pandemic in spring 2020. As early as April and May, the country had taken over different amounts of daycare contributions from parents.

This should ensure that the relief for parents is as uniform as possible nationwide and that not each of the municipalities responsible for childcare sets its own regulations.
