Quakenbrück (dpa / lni) - After the arrival of the corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Moderna in Germany, distribution began on Tuesday.

From the Artland barracks in Quakenbrück, Lower Saxony, the vaccine was transported to other federal states, as a Bundeswehr spokesman confirmed.

The Moderna vaccine for Germany will first be brought to the Quakenbrück Bundeswehr pharmacy, as Claudia Schröder, the vice-head of the Corona crisis team of the Lower Saxony state government, said.

From there it is delivered to the distribution centers in the federal states and then to the vaccination centers in the respective states.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the first 63,600 cans should be delivered on Tuesday.

The Moderna vaccine must be stored at around minus 20 degrees Celsius.

It is stable for 30 days at refrigerator temperature and twelve hours at room temperature.

The preparation from Moderna is the second corona vaccine approved in the European Union, alongside the product from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer.

Both are so-called mRNA vaccines.
