January 12, 2021 Still no contact between rescuers and 22 miners trapped for two days in a gold mine near Qixia, Shandong.

A strong explosion would have collapsed the exit staircase from the gold mine, preventing any communication.

The incident took place last Sunday.



According to Chinese media, the authorities mobilized rescue teams at the Shandong Wucailong Investmentper site. And it's a race against time to free the 22 miners swallowed underground. A race against time also to face the latest in a series of accidents in the Chinese mining industry, due to poor safety rules. In December, 23 miners died in the city of Chongqing in southwestern China, a few months later in the same city 16 people lost their lives from carbon monoxide fumes in a coal mine.
