In mid-December, 49-year-old Anette Åman received a test result that she had contracted covid-19.

Just before Christmas, she was so ill that she was rushed to the hospital in Enköping for treatment.

But the coronavirus did not go away and she got worse.

She was transported to the University Hospital in Uppsala and anesthetized at the Central Intensive Care Unit (CIVA).

- It felt like everything was over, she says.

Anette Åman does not remember how long she lay there.

But slowly but surely her condition became stable enough that she could be transported back to Enköping.

Good news

When SVT visits her in the hospital's covid department, she has received a gratifying message the same day.

- The doctor asked if I wanted to go home, now that I no longer need oxygen.

And of course I want to, she says.

- After lying like this, I will never commit any crime.

It's awful to be imprisoned.

"Can walk a few meters"

Even if the acute state of illness is now over, the struggle to become normal again will be long.

- I can walk a few meters, then I'm completely done.

I will do my exercises to regain my strength, says Anette Åman before she leaves the hospital in a wheelchair.

In the clip above, she tells more about what it is like to be in intensive care for covid-19.
