"After ten months in pandemic mode, you have to switch from improvisation to strategy," said the President of the business associations in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Uli Wachholtz, at the virtual New Year's reception on Monday.
"It cannot go on as before."
The improvisation was only good for the moment.
Answers are now needed about what should happen in the north until herd immunity is achieved, said Wachholtz.
"We now have to define which framework conditions we need for a successful future, what are the future issues that we need to advance."
The most urgent thing is to end “digital hibernation”.
Germany is still lagging behind in terms of digitization.
The further construction of Autobahn 20 is also necessary.
Wachholtz expects a high number of bankruptcies in the north as well.
The pandemic used up the capital of many companies.
However, the wrong signals are currently coming from federal politics, he said.
"We do not need a legal right to work from home and no new regulations."
Work contracts and temporary work are indispensable for companies.
