Silent since the violence on Capitol Hill perpetrated by pro-Trump, Melania Trump finally reacted on Monday by condemning the violence but also denouncing the "attacks" of which she considers herself a victim.

"I absolutely condemn the violence that took place on Capitol Hill. Violence is never acceptable," writes Donald Trump's wife in a letter posted on the White House website.

Melania Trump denounces "salacious gossip" and "personal attacks"

"It is encouraging to see that so many people are excited and passionate about an election, but we cannot allow this passion to turn into violence," adds the First Lady of the United States.

Melania Trump, however, never explicitly mentions the fact that it was her husband's supporters, doped by his rhetoric and his refusal to accept the verdict of the polls, who sowed chaos in the Capitol.

The First Lady also takes this letter to denounce the "salacious gossip", "personal attacks" and "deceptive accusations" against her, without giving details of the episodes to which she refers.

Melania Trump's silence since Wednesday's attack has prompted many questions in the US media.
