A tragedy was avoided on Sunday afternoon at the Essert lake, a town in the Territoire-de-Belfort.
It was around 3:30 p.m. when a 3-year-old child and his father passed through the thin layer of ice of the small lake and found themselves in the frozen water, reports
L'Est Républicain
.
Trapped, they were rescued by two 13-year-old teenagers who passed nearby.
The duo managed to rescue the child before the father, too heavy for them, was taken out of the water by the Belfort firefighters.
The two victims, safe and sound, were taken to the Nord Franche-Comté hospital.
