Two gendarmes, a 53-year-old adjutant and a 56-year-old major, committed suicide on Friday in their barracks in Lyon and Toulouse.

She left a writing behind her "without questioning the hierarchy", said a source familiar with the matter, specifying that she had "health problems".

The Office of Judicial Investigations of the General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie (IGGN) was seized of the investigation.

The man was a 56-year-old major, assigned to the Toulouse road safety squadron, married with two children, the gendarmerie said.

He was "on sick leave", according to the close source.

The Toulouse Research Brigade was seized.
