Berlin (dpa / bb) - A 33-year-old man is said to have persecuted, threatened, kidnapped and raped his ex-girlfriend - now the trial against him has started at the Berlin Regional Court.

The defense attorney stated on Monday after reading the indictment that his client had "made some mistakes".

The allegations of hostage-taking and rape, however, were "firmly rejected".

According to the indictment, the man is said to have beaten, strangled and threatened with death the woman who was about ten years younger in February 2020 in an apartment in the Neukölln district.

In the following two days, the alleged stalker wrote a total of 113 emails to the woman.

"You will call me or it will get worse," he threatened, according to the prosecution, among other things.

Sometimes he contacted and threatened his former girlfriend every minute.

He did not want to accept her separation from him.

Although the woman had obtained a resolution under the Violence Protection Act and the defendant was prohibited from contacting her, he is said to have harassed her with further messages.

In addition, he appeared in front of her apartment and smeared her family's car with black paint several times, the prosecution said.

He intended to “control their everyday life and be an integral part of it”.

The man's behavior forced her to change her cell phone number and email address.

For a longer period of time, she no longer left the apartment unaccompanied.

Most recently, the 33-year-old is said to have threatened the woman with a knife in April 2020 and forced her to get into his vehicle.

After driving towards the Baltic Sea, he raped her in the car, the prosecution said.

The woman is expected to be interviewed in the trial in February.

The trial continues on January 27th.
