- We have just had a sudden, very rapid warming of the stratosphere and it is rumored that really cold air may be coming in, says SVT's meteorologist Maria Augutis.

The stratosphere is located at an altitude of 10-50 kilometers, above the clouds and the troposphere.

During the winter, a wind vortex is created which keeps the polar air locked at the poles.

But some years it weakens, this is SSW.

- Really really cold polar air can break loose and get down on us in Scandinavia.

It does not always lead to extreme cold, other things also affect, but the probability of a wolf winter increases, says the meteorologist.
