The head of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah here Saif Al-Suwaidi revealed to Emirates Today that the authority’s teams confiscated 105 predatory animals during the past year, through coordination and cooperation with the Sharjah Police General Command, as part of its efforts to limit the phenomenon of raising predatory animals in estates. And homes, and seized animals are kept in special places prepared to take care of them.

It indicated that the confiscation of animals was carried out in accordance with the legal, professional, practical and procedural principles, and according to Administrative Resolution No. 15 of 2014, issued by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the prohibition of the possession of dangerous and predatory animals in the emirate, and the Executive Council’s decision. The Emirate of Sharjah No. 30 of 2014 regarding the controls on the possession of dangerous and predatory animals in the emirate, and Federal Law No. 22 of 2016, issued by His Highness the President of the State regarding the regulation of the possession of dangerous animals.

She indicated that among the confiscated animals are lions, tigers, monkeys, snakes, crocodiles, and others, indicating that the authority has a shelter and care center for predators in the desert park, covering an area of ​​27 thousand square meters, in which all the confiscated predators are housed.

Al-Suwaidi stated that the process of confiscating dangerous and predatory animals does not take place until after confirmation of the matter, especially that some complaints that reach the authority may be malicious, which makes the authority's teams take a long period of time to investigate, search and follow up, to make sure of the subject of the complaint, and after that the process of confiscating dangerous animals begins. Predatory ones from homes after obtaining the permission of the Public Prosecution, in cooperation with Sharjah Police and police special task teams.

She added that the authority’s role in confiscating predatory animals aims to preserve the lives of people, as they are kept in special centers designed to take care of them, noting that the decision to prohibit and confiscate dangerous animals imposes a fine of 100,000 dirhams on everyone who harbors predatory animals that harm people, while Anyone who begins to hand it over is exempt from the fine, pointing out that the fine for transporting dangerous animals from one place to another within the emirate or outside it without obtaining prior approval from the authority amounts to 10 thousand dirhams.
