Essen (dpa / lnw) - A suspected thief was seriously injured after a chase with the police on the A44 near Heiligenhaus when he crashed into an earth wall with a car.
As the police announced on Monday, officials had wanted to check the man in Essen the previous evening.
The 36-year-old accelerated and fled via the A44 in the direction of Velbert until the chase ended for him at the Heiligenhaus exit.
The driver was taken to hospital seriously injured.
According to the police, he did not have a driver's license, was drugged and had alleged stolen property in the car.
Where he got the car from is still unclear.
He was provisionally arrested in the hospital.
