Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The Hessian police will initially not specifically monitor compliance with the new 15-kilometer restriction in regions with high numbers of corona infections.

A spokesman for the Ministry of the Interior said in Wiesbaden on Monday that there are no major controls planned.

However, compliance with the 15-kilometer radius of movement is also monitored as part of the patrol activity.

However, the focus is on compliance with the mask requirement and contact restrictions.

Since Monday, residents in regions with more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants have been allowed to move a maximum of 15 kilometers from their place of residence within three days without a valid reason.

If there are indications of a violation, according to the Ministry of the Interior, this can be prosecuted with a fine of up to 200 euros.

For the police, however, the focus is on dialogue with citizens when violations occur.

The 15-kilometer rule is issued by independent cities and districts in the form of a general decree.

It falls under the responsibility of the regulatory authorities.

The police support them with administrative assistance.

The 15-kilometer rule was criticized in advance, including municipalities criticizing its enforceability.

In Hesse, according to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the districts of Fulda, Gießen, Limburg-Weilburg and the Vogelsbergkreis were above the mark of 200 new infections in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants.

In the Vogelsberg district, the rule should apply from Wednesday, the Fulda district still wants to advise.
