Berlin (dpa) - The first delivery with around 60,000 doses of the corona vaccine from the US manufacturer Moderna arrived in Germany on Monday.

This was confirmed by a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Health.

"Image" had previously reported on it.

The ministry has not commented on the question of where the vaccine will be temporarily stored before it is delivered to the federal states on Tuesday.

According to information from "Bild" and NDR, a military barracks in Quakenbrück in the Lower Saxony district of Osnabrück is used as a warehouse.

The local supply and repair center for medical equipment is a Bundeswehr pharmacy assigned to the Navy with greater logistical capabilities.

As in Mali, current armed forces operations there are supplied with equipment and medication.

Navy ships and boats are also supplied with medical supplies.

A good two weeks after the start of vaccinations with the first corona vaccine from Biontech and Pfizer approved in the EU, the delivery of the second approved vaccine from Moderna to the federal states and their vaccination centers is to begin this Tuesday.

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) expects two million doses of Moderna for Germany by the end of the quarter, and 50 million doses over the course of the year.

As with the vaccine from the Mainz company Biontech and the US manufacturer Pfizer, it is a so-called mRNA vaccine.

According to the head of the Standing Vaccination Commission, Thomas Mertens, both vaccines are "equivalent in effectiveness and safety".

There should not be any choice of who gets which vaccine.
