Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's much-scolded learning platform Mebis worked, according to the Ministry of Culture, on Monday with the start of distance learning.

Minister Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) had come under massive criticism before the Christmas holidays for repeated problems at Mebis.

Not only did the opposition demand his resignation, there was also direct criticism from within the CSU.

Since Monday, Bavaria's students have had to study from home because the schools are also closed due to the corona-related lockdown - only emergency care takes place.

On Monday morning, Piazolo appealed to the teachers on Bayerischer Rundfunk to keep in touch with the students even in distance lessons, by phone if necessary.

Previously, he had repeatedly stated that a large pool of learning instruments had to be used in distance teaching, from school books and the telephone to messenger services and video offers such as Microsoft Teams. Many schools and municipalities have already created their own options and concepts, including cloud solutions. Bavaria's schools will be closed at least until the end of January.
