After a meeting with former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielus Landsbergis said that the Lithuanian authorities are ready, with the consent of the Belarusian side, to change the name of Belarus in official circulation.
"If Belarus expresses such a wish, we will be happy to discuss this issue," Landsbergis was quoted by TASS as saying.
The minister said that the current name "interprets Belarus as part of Russia."
It is noted that the currently accepted name of Belarus in the Lithuanian language is Baltarusija, Rusija in Lithuanian is Russia.
