Teltow (dpa / bb) - To combat African swine fever (ASP) in Brandenburg, the state farmers' association is calling for more support for the hunters from the state.

In order to decimate the wild boar population, the framework conditions for the hunters are far from sufficient, said LBV President Henrik Wendorff on Monday.

"Hunting is a volunteer job, and the options are limited for professional hunters."

To this end, it is important to look for viable answers - beyond the payment of shooting bonuses.

Wendorff also called for the fence to be finally completed in the ASP areas so that the reduction in the wild boar population could begin in the core areas and in the white zones.

The fence construction must be completed at the beginning of the spring cultivation of the fields.

On September 24th, the construction of the permanent fence along the border with Poland began in the south of the country.

The permanent fencing of the three core areas and so-called white zones, which are double-fenced, should also proceed quickly, according to the Ministry of Consumer Protection.

So far, more than 300 kilometers of solid fence have been erected.

On Monday, the district of Uckermark, according to its own information, began building a permanent fence in various sections.

Initially, a 5.1 kilometer fence will be erected to the village of Stützkow.

At the same time, a solid fence between Friedrichsthal and Mescherin is being built over a length of about 13 kilometers, as the responsible employee in the Office for District Development, Construction and Real Estate, Petra Schwanke, reported.

The final coordination with the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took place on the construction section between Mescherin and the federal highway 11.

About 600 meters of the fence would be built through the neighboring state.
