Vlt was the first to tell about the new priority staff group.

Already in the afternoon, 31 people from the staff had received their first dose of covid-18 vaccine.

- We want to prevent staff shortages in the departments that work with advanced care.

That staff is difficult to redistribute.

Should many become ill, we would not be able to guarantee patients good care, says Jonas Ekström who is the vaccine coordinator in Västmanland.

The region has also discovered that the bottles that had been calculated to contain five doses are in fact overfilled and contain six doses.

Which means that more people can be vaccinated in total.

- Some regions have chosen to throw what is left in the bottles, but we see that it is just as good and enough for another dose so we use it.

Once a week, approximately 3,000 doses of covid-19 vaccine land in Västmanland.

The vaccination of the most prioritized groups is still ongoing, but before the end of the week, Ekström believes that everyone who lives in special accommodation will have received their first dose of vaccine.

Now staff at IVA and one of the infection wards are included in that group.

This involves a total of 240 people.

- We also hope that more vaccines will be approved so that the Swedish Public Health Agency can send out larger quantities of vaccines so we can increase the pace, says Jonas Ekström.
