Mainz (dpa) - The vaccine manufacturer Biontech offers its employees a voluntary vaccination in the fight against Corona according to a newspaper report.

The vaccine should also be made available to suppliers and sales partners in Germany and Austria, "who are actively and directly involved in the production and sales process," the company announced to the VRM newspaper group on Monday.

All associated costs would be covered by Biontech.

The Mainz-based company sells the vaccine together with the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer.

Because of the great demand, the production should be increased from 1.3 to two billion vaccine doses, it said.

According to the newspapers (“Allgemeine Zeitung Mainz”, “Darmstädter Echo”, “Wiesbadener Kurier”), Biontech believes that every woman and man in the company is needed to ensure this.

That is why it was decided to offer a vaccination to all employees in Germany.

The Federal Ministry of Health had been informed.

According to its own information, Biontech currently has more than 3,600 employees.

The vaccination program for employees should not have any negative effects on existing supply contracts, it said.

The quantities required are small compared to those promised to the EU and other countries.
