US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker said Morocco is a central partner for regional stability and that it enjoys a broad military partnership.

Schenker, who is visiting Western Sahara for the first time after the US recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over it last month, added that he announces with great enthusiasm that the relationship between his country and Morocco is always strong and continues to flourish and develop.

And he considered that his country's recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara region and the resumption of relations between Israel and Rabat are among the most important developments over two centuries of friendship between the United States and Morocco.

He pointed out that these developments were made possible thanks to the leadership of King Mohammed VI of Morocco in pushing forward a bold and far-reaching reform program over the past two decades, and his continuous and valuable support for issues of common concern such as peace in the Middle East and Africa, stability and development, and regional security.

For his part, Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita said that Morocco is working with the United States for the sake of stability in North Africa and the Sahel region and combating terrorism, adding that the two countries' positions are converging on international issues.

He pointed out that these relations are advancing at an unprecedented pace, and that they have clearly developed in recent years, especially thanks to the signing of a set of agreements, and indicated that the two countries' positions are close to stability in Libya and Africa.

Earlier, on December 10, Trump announced the agreement of Morocco and Israel to normalize relations between them, and on the same day Rabat announced its intention to resume official bilateral contacts and diplomatic relations with Israel as soon as possible.
