Term start for the upper secondary schools in SVT East's area is between Thursday, January 7, to Monday, January 11.

During the week, SVT Nyheter Öst has been in contact with the municipalities in Östergötland, as well as with Region Gotland regarding the teaching of upper secondary schools during the spring.

All municipalities in Östergötland currently answer that they drive as usual, but Region Gotland announces that two schools will switch to distance education.

Flags for congestion

According to Torsten Flemming, director of education at Region Gotland, they had a meeting on Friday regarding the possibility of distance education.

During the meeting, principals from two schools, Södervärnskolan and Solbergaskolan, flagged congestion on the premises.

Torsten Flemming says that the solution for the two schools will be that year nine starts with distance education from Tuesday, later the distance education will alternate between year eight and nine.

Year seven continues to have teaching in place.

Takes action

Term start for several upper secondary schools in Östergötland was already on Thursday, the same day as the government came with its announcement.

But the message does not change the planning of any municipality.

Instead, everyone says that they will take the necessary measures in the first place and lastly to take distance education.

The measures include, among other things, sparse even more and being careful with the cleaning of the premises.

In Boxholm municipality, all educators must now wear a visor.
