Berlin (dpa / bb) - To combat the corona pandemic, stricter contact restrictions will apply in Berlin from this Sunday than before.

Private meetings are only allowed with your own family or shared apartment and at most one other person.

Additional children are not allowed unless the meeting is with single parents.

This is intended to further reduce private contacts.

Until now, there was an upper limit of five people from two households for private meetings in Berlin, not counting children.

In Brandenburg, the stricter contact rules have been in place since Saturday.

After some back and forth, the schools in Berlin remain essentially closed.

School-guided learning at home for students in grades 1 to 9 and for some higher grades will be extended until at least January 25, said Education Senator Sandra Scheeres (SPD) on Friday.

Until then, there is no compulsory attendance.

For the final grades 10, 12 and 13 at grammar schools and secondary schools, face-to-face offers in small groups should be possible from Monday.

With the recently approved extension of the lockdown until January 31, most shops, schools and kindergartens as well as restaurants, pubs, sports halls and cultural and event facilities will remain closed.

People should only leave their homes for a “valid reason”, such as shopping and being outdoors.

Drinking alcohol in public places outside is prohibited.

Overnight stays in hotels are also largely prohibited.

In the meantime, the dynamic in recording new corona infections is increasing.

The so-called seven-day incidence rose to 191.7 on Saturday and thus continued to approach the 200 mark. The value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants were infected in the past seven days.

Before Christmas, the value in Berlin was well over 200 and then fell.

In the four districts of Spandau, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Marzahn-Hellersdorf and Treptow-Köpenick, the incidence value is now over 200. The Senate had announced that, with such high numbers of infections, it would examine whether a new rule for the capital, similar to that in Brandenburg, would also apply freedom of movement should apply.
