Iranian Parliament Speaker Muhammad Baqer Qalibaf emphasized that the nuclear agreement that his country signed with Western countries in 2105 is not sacred, and that the most important thing is to lift the sanctions imposed on his country.

He added in statements to him today, Sunday, that the signing of President-elect Joe Biden of the agreement "is not a guarantee because the United States has proven that it is not reliable even under former President Barack Obama."

He said that the signatories to the nuclear agreement are required to implement their obligations first, and then Tehran will implement all its nuclear obligations.

Qalibaf’s remarks came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's accusations against Iran, in which he said that Tehran is using its nuclear program to blackmail the international community and threaten regional security.

Pompeo affirmed that his country supports the IAEA continuing to verify and monitor Iran's nuclear program, stressing that the expulsion of international inspectors must be met with global condemnation, referring to the statements of a deputy in the Iranian parliament that included a new threat to expel IAEA inspectors.

These developments come about a week after confirming the start of uranium enrichment at the underground "Fordo" nuclear facility to a purity of 20%, a level Iran has not reached since the nuclear deal with the major powers in 2015.

Washington and Tel Aviv say that enriching uranium at high levels is part of the efforts that have been going on for years to build a nuclear weapon, which Iran strongly denies.

Last December, the Iranian parliament approved a law to expel the nuclear inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency unless all sanctions on Iran were lifted.
