The Madrid City Council has finalized during the afternoon of this Sunday the cleaning of the main roads of the 21 districts of the capital, that is, those that guarantee fundamental mobility in the areas in which the city is divided.

This is detailed on

an interactive map with information from the Environment and Mobility Area

that has been distributed by the municipal corporation and by the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, where the state of the roads will be updated.

[See here the map of the city].

Among the streets cleared by

the cleaning operation of 6,220 workers and 135 snowplows

of the Consistory and the troops provided by the UME are some essential axes of the capital such as Paseo de la Castellana, the main north-south artery of Madrid.

It is joined by the Gran Vía, Gran Vía del Este, Gran Vía de Hortaleza, Avenidas de los Poblados, Avenida de la Albufera, Avenida de San Luis, Avenida de Andalucía, Ronda de Atocha, Ronda de Toledo, Avenida Cardenal Herrera Oria, Antonio de Cabezón street or José Abascal street.

Thus until completing

more than a hundred streets

, which means that the City Council of the capital has completed the first phase of its cleaning plan.

Now the municipal operators will focus on the roads surrounding these main mobility axes, also called secondary roads, in order to recover a certain normality in the mobility of the capital.

The mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, had already warned this Sunday morning that it would be "essential" to clear as many streets as possible in these first hours before there was a significant drop in temperatures and the frosts began.

The councilor had also announced this morning that the ring of the M-30 already had two lanes enabled, one in each direction.

However, the mayor has reminded citizens that mobility in these next few hours should be reserved for Security and Emergency vehicles.

"Let's avoid the use of private vehicles unless it is strictly necessary," Almeida warned in statements to the media.
