Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg Towers have put an exclamation mark in the basketball Bundesliga and ended the winning streak of the Hakro Merlins Crailsheim.

With 89:72 (71:48, 53:35, 26:15) the team of coach Pedro Calles defeated the guests in the Wilhelmsburger Arena on Sunday evening who had previously won seven games in a row and now suffered their second defeat of the season.

For the Towers it was the eighth success in the eleventh game.

The best hamburger was Maik Kotsar with 15 points.

The Towers seemed very present and focused in the initial phase and were already in the lead 14: 4 after just three minutes.

The guests found their way into the game better after a break, but the Hanseatics were only impressed briefly.

In the second quarter, the strong defense of the Towers repeatedly caused problems for the people of Baden-Württemberg and had almost eliminated Trae Bell-Haynes in particular.

The Bundesliga top scorer recorded just three points from a free throw until the break.

The Towers offensive, however, was more accurate, which meanwhile brought the team a 22-point lead.

In the third quarter, the Hanseatic League built on their strong performance in defense and kept Crailsheim at a distance.

In the final quarter, the Hamburgers no longer acted as consistently, but benefited from the clear lead.
