Oranienburg / Kyritz (dpa / bb) - Several people were injured in four fires in apartments over the weekend in Brandenburg.

On Sunday there was smoke development in a home for age-appropriate living in Oranienburg (Oberhavel), said a spokesman for the situation center.

Eleven residents were brought to safety and two of them received medical attention.

The cause of the smoke development has not yet been clarified, the spokesman reported.

In Kyritz (Ostprignitz-Ruppin) a house burned down early on Saturday morning.

According to initial findings, the 49-year-old resident triggered the fire when improperly handling gas and electric heating devices, the police said.

The 49-year-old suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

He was taken to a hospital.

The fire brigade was able to put out the fire after three hours.

According to the police, the house is no longer habitable.

Also in Kyritz, a gas boiler caught fire in the basement of a residential building for an unexplained cause on Saturday.

Relatives of the 91-year-old house owner noticed the fire in good time and alerted the fire brigade, the police said.

The rescue workers turned off the gas and extinguished the thermal bath.

The fire hadn't spread to the house.

Nobody got hurt.

When changing a gas bottle on a mobile heater in a house in Lellichow (Ostprignitz-Ruppin), gas on an electric heater ignited on Friday.

The 55-year-old resident carried the gas bottle outside and burned his hands, the police said.

The alarmed fire brigade was able to avert the danger.

There was no property damage to the house.
