Darmstadt (dpa) - Hannover 96 has continued its race to catch up in the 2nd Bundesliga.

One week after the 4-0 win against SV Sandhausen, coach Kenan Kocak's team won 2-1 (1-0) at SV Darmstadt 98 on Sunday.Marvin Duksch with a free kick (45th minute) and after a mistake by Bayern Loan Lars Lukas Mai (50th) scored twice for Lower Saxony, Aaron Seydel with a stab for the home side (68th).

After ten points from the last four games, Hannover has now established itself in the upper half of the table for the first time.

The guests achieved their first success against the lilies in the second division since the 5: 0 in 1992. In contrast to the 26-year-old Duksch, Serdar Dursun could hardly show himself at Darmstadt and missed a top-class chance (37th).

The striker, trained in the 96 youth, is considered to be Kocak's preferred candidate, but the South Hesse recently put a stop to a change.

Darmstadt increased the pressure in the second round.

First, Felix Platte failed because of the former Darmstadt goalkeeper Michael Esser (64th), then Seydel hit the next goal.

Esser saved his team victory in the 80th minute with a sharp shot from Fabian Schnellhardt.
