The viral situation is "worrying" in Marseille, ruled Sunday Benoît Payan, the PS mayor of the city.

Since the discovery of a first case linked to the British variant of the coronavirus, to which around twenty contact cases tested positive for Covid-19 were linked, seven of these new cases have been identified as carriers of the English strain.

Globally in the Bouches-du-Rhône, the incidence rate is 230 per 100,000 inhabitants on Sunday, well above the national average, around 155. "We are preparing for an increase in resuscitation, in the next 15 days. ", warns Dominique Rossi, president of the medical establishment commission of the APHM, guest of Europe 1 Sunday.

Since the end of the year celebrations, Marseille hospitals have seen an increase in the number of hospitalized patients.

"Excluding resuscitation, they were 56 sick on December 24. Today, they are 80", explains the doctor.

On Europe 1, the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône, Christophe Mirmand, worried about an "unfavorable" and "very rapid" development in the health situation.
