The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai revealed the development of a new technical control system that tracks cargo delivery bicycles ordered through electronic platforms and smart applications, confirming that the system ensures control over the standards and requirements for transporting these goods in accordance with the highest safety and quality conditions, most notably preventing the movement of delivery bicycles except within Specific routes with a connection distance of no more than 20 km.

The director of the commercial transport activities department at the licensing agency at the authority, Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Mir, told «Emirates Today» that the new control system was developed by the institution to ensure that companies apply the required standards in the transportation of materials of all kinds (food, medicine, and clothing), stressing that each request will be met. The delivery driver from the platform he works with will be through the control system of the Corporation’s control center, so that a request is not sent to the driver except within a specific sector in which the driver works, and within short distances that guarantee his safety and the safety of the transported materials.

Al-Mir added that, for example, he will not allow food to be transported from a restaurant in Al Warqaa to another location in Jumeirah, and then return and transport food to another place in Deira. Rather, the system will determine the driver’s movement and the bike’s path in a geographical area within which he operates exclusively. Noting that in the event that there is an error or an override by the companies and the driver is sent in a request outside his range of movement, this will appear when the bike number is detected in the system, and then the driver and the company will be violated.

Al-Mir said that the standards that have been adopted are currently being circulated and explained to companies. They include four main axes that include the requirements for commercial licensing for the platform for submitting applications via electronic media and smart applications in coordination with the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, and the second axis relates to the bike specifications, in addition to the axis related to the box that is transported Inside it is the materials to be delivered, as well as the axle for the bike driver and the requirements that regulate his work and ensure his compliance with the standards.

He said that the connection to the system would prevent the expired bike from walking on the emirate’s streets or working in delivering orders, indicating that the number of delivery bicycles belonging to the electronic and smart platforms increased greatly and with an increase of 100% during the second half of last year, as the number of cyclists reached Delivery to nearly 60,000 drivers, which necessitated the need to set up an effective and sophisticated system to control their work in coordination with the concerned authorities, to ensure the highest levels of safety and quality and to preserve the rights of all partners involved in the practice of selling activity through those platforms.

He stressed that the conditions and standards were approved in coordination with the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, adding that they are currently being presented and circulated to companies and to ensure their understanding and agreement to adhere to, as they will be given a period of one year to amend their conditions in accordance with the requirements and standards to be applied, while an organizational agreement will be signed with any An establishment or institution declaring its readiness to implement the conditions and adhere to them, so that the agreement guarantees that each party obtains its rights.

A ceiling for the delivery tariff

The Director of the Commercial Transportation Activities Department at the Licensing Agency, Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Mir, stated that the authority has set, within the standards it has set to control the activity of transferring purchases of smart platforms, a ceiling for the delivery tariff that will be announced later, to preserve the customer’s rights in the wake of some institutions ’exaggeration in imposing delivery fees that sometimes reach 40 dirhams, which is not logical, indicating that the need to impose high connection fees on the customer will be eliminated, given the determination of delivery distances within specific sectors and over short distances.
