It has been three days since thousands of Trump supporters broke through the barricades at the Congress House, after which a large number entered the building itself.

Several were armed with blunt weapons, electric pistols and firearms.

Some were also equipped with cable ties, but what they would be used for is currently unclear.

One of the police's theories is that there were plans to take politicians or officials hostage, according to information to The Washington Post.

Several criminal suspicions

Information on how many have been arrested in the United States since the riots varies.

On Thursday alone, 68 people had been arrested.

The crimes they are suspected of vary, but three of the most common headings concern violent riots, unlawful intrusion and violence against civil servants.

At the same time, the police are searching for people who were on site at the Capitol with undiminished force.

The FBI has published a series of photos of people of interest to them on its website and has asked the public for help in identifying them.

"We are working closely with federal, state and local partners to aggressively seek out those who participated in criminal activities during the events of January 6," the FBI wrote.

Viral people arrested

One of those arrested is a 33-year-old man who calls himself "The Qanon Shaman".

Pictures of the man spread like wildfire during the events, including how he dressed in a horned fur hat posing at the podium in the House of Representatives.

The name refers to the conspiracy theory "Qanon" which claims that a devil-worshiping, cannibalistic and pedophile-promoting sect secretly opposes President Donald Trump.

A 36-year-old father of several children has also been arrested after pictures were spread as he carried away Speaker Nancy Pelosis' podium with a smile.

This after he was identified by residents in his hometown of Florida.
