09 January 2021League senator Matteo Salvini arrived at the bunker room of the Ucciardone prison in Palermo, where the preliminary hearing of the trial will be held this morning in which the former interior minister is accused of kidnapping and refusal of acts of office, as part of the investigation into the delays in disembarking migrants from the Open Arms ship.

Salvini, defended by the trusted lawyer Giulia Bongiorno, made no statements upon his arrival.

According to the power of attorney directed by Francesco Lo Voi, the ban on disembarking the 107 migrants rescued by the Open Arms, in August 2019, was an illegal act.

Five migrants who now live in Germany are civil parties, as well as the Spanish NGO that carried out the rescue and the ship's captain.
