Braunschweig / Hannover (dpa / lni) - After the fire on the premises of the state registration authority in Braunschweig, the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior is assuming a left-wing extremist arson attack.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, a confessor on the Internet indicates this.

"I am shocked and shaken by the extent of the attacks and the ruthlessness of these perpetrators," said Lower Saxony Interior Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) according to a statement on Saturday.

"Nobody in Germany has the right to ruthlessly and with sheer force to implement their own political goals," said the minister.

The state reception authority organizes the reception and accommodation of asylum seekers in Lower Saxony and supports the municipal immigration authorities with repatriations.

Ten vehicles and one trailer went up in flames on Saturday night on the premises of the authority in Braunschweig.

The new transport vehicles burned out completely.

People were not injured in the fire.

According to initial estimates, damage of around half a million euros has occurred.

As the Interior Ministry announced on Saturday afternoon, incendiary devices were also found on the building of the state registration authority in Hanover-Langenhagen, but they did not ignite.

According to the ministry, a confessor published on the Internet on Saturday suggests a left-wing extremist background.

On Saturday morning, the police were initially unable to give any details about the fire in Braunschweig.

Now the State Criminal Police Office is supposed to take over the transmissions.

"The investigation into the perpetrators is in full swing," it said.

Interior Minister Pistorius said that in Lower Saxony there was a "strong radicalization" of the left-wing extremist scene, which was developing into a "terrorist structure".
